Meet Our Principal

Rita Sakr
Principal, Tangara School for GirlsWelcome, and thank you for your interest in Tangara School for Girls. Having three daughters of my own, I understand the importance of selecting a school that works in partnership with you through your most important task in life – parenting.
Since 1982, Tangara has offered families and their children a total educational experience unlike any other through our unique 1:1 Mentoring System. Combined with a strong academic foundation, this system differs markedly from arrangements offered in other schools by enabling a true partnership between school and parents in the development of their children.
Tangara is built on the belief that the best education develops the whole person, integrating the pursuit of academic excellence, learning of diverse skills, building of character and the development of faith.
We inspire young women to embrace leadership and thrive in all areas of life through our outstanding academics and co-curricular opportunities in sport, music, drama, public speaking, community service, leadership and much more.
Our mission is summed up best in our school motto: Ad Summam Virtutem, Towards the Fullness of Virtue.
Please join us at our next Open Day where you can meet our students, our dedicated staff and see our wonderful school in action.
1:1 Mentoring
At Tangara, every student is personally known and deeply supported. From Kindergarten to Year 12, each girl is paired with a mentor through our personalised one-on-one mentoring system.
Mentoring meetings are informal yet intentional conversations: a space where your daughter can speak openly, set goals, and grow in self-knowledge. Whether she’s navigating school pressures or the quiet challenges of growing up, her mentor is a steady, trusted presence who encourages her to flourish with resilience, virtue and confidence.
Tangara’s mentoring uniquely has a connection with you. By meeting with both parents to share insights and listen, together we build a strong partnership between home and school. This ensures your daughter’s development is consistent, coherent and deeply supported.
Our mentoring model provides:
- Fortnightly one-on-one mentoring tailored to your daughter’s stage and personal goals
- Guidance across academic goals, friendships, faith and character
- Early identification of challenges, with gentle support or timely intervention
- A dedicated mentor who forms a long-term relationship of trust and encouragement
- Regular mentor-parent meetings to align support and strengthen your role as her primary influence
Academic Initiatives
Our aim is to challenge each student to reach their full academic potential through effective classroom teaching and the development of internalised motivation and good habits.
Initiatives at Tangara designed to support your daughter include:
- Individual Education Plans for students requiring adjustments or learning support.
Primary School:
- WRAP (Writing, Reading, and Phonics) Literacy Program—a research-based, multi-sensory approach to literacy. It systematically develops foundational skills such as phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. The program is designed to help every student become a confident communicator, equipping her with the tools to think clearly and express herself well in both written and spoken language.
- Junior Great Books—Students engage with high-quality literature using Socratic dialogue, learning to listen, reflect and express ideas clearly, while building critical thinking and communication skills in a nurturing environment.
Secondary School:
- Gifted learners have access to differentiated classroom tasks, curriculum compaction and acceleration in subjects such as Mathematics, English and Science.
- Opportunities for selective co-curricular enrichment: Da Vinci Decathlon, Tournament of Minds, Maths Olympiad, Debating, Duke of Edinburgh.
- Vocational Education and Training (VET) pathways available via external providers, with support for careers in health services, hospitality, early childhood education, business administration and information technology.
Tangara Performing Arts
Tangara School for Girls is known for its performing arts. With a well-established and ever-growing program, the College see involvements in the performing arts as an opportunity for students to explore their talents and grow in character.
Every Journey Begins With A Conversation. We’d Love To Meet You.
