On Saturday 21 October, Christine Abrams, Gabrielle Landers and Matilda Wiggins participated in the AHIGS Festival of Speech held at Tara Anglican College. The Year 10 students were involved in the Religious and Ethical Questions session of the competition, during which they were called on to discuss whether researchers should engage in human genetic modification by editing the DNA of embryos to enhance human species or to suit a certain environment.
Christine, Gabrielle and Matilda explored the ethical concerns surrounding this issue, such as the ethics behind embryonic experimentation and the implications to future generations.
Congratulations on your efforts girls! Thank you to Mrs Rosa Walkeens and Dr Rosa Carvalho for organising this event.
