Final Philosothon by Hanna Pillai

Last Saturday 16 November, Katriel Paelez (Year 8), Lara Tedesco (Year 9), Amy Weber (11) and I had the opportunity to take part in the Final round of the Philosothon Competition that we have been participating for quite some time. We were competing against many different schools including Kings, Meriden, Sydney Girls High School, St Andrew’s and St Patrick’s.

We were divided into age groups and throughout the day we had 3 Communities Of Inquiry and a lecture from a Linguistics professor from Macquarie University. Our Communities Of Inquiry were based on the topics Consciousness, Copies and Original and Deep forces of Human Language. We all thoroughly enjoyed the enlightening conversations that we had within our groups. These conversations really opened our minds to new ideas and broadened our perspectives on certain issues. It helped us ask deeper questions about life and express our wonders and queries about each topic.

Overall we all agreed it was a very rewarding experience and are very thankful for Dr Carvalho, who coached us and encouraged us throughout the day.

4N Christmas Letter Exchange - Written by Taylor Tan

4N participated in an exciting project alongside other students all over Australia. It was called the Christmas Letter Exchange.

In class, we spent time writing a Christmas letter to students around Australia, from Albany to Tamworth and Deception Bay to Katherine. We also made Christmas decorations to include in our letters, which looked amazing!

We can’t wait to receive our letters and decorations from our new friends around Australia.

Overall, 4N had an amazing time writing our letters to students, it was a very enjoyable experience.

Our Tangara Class of 2020 leaders took part in the Mitchell Youth Leadership Forum on the weekend. The girls enjoyed the two-and-a-half-day program which encouraged and inspired them to live the values of service to others, integrity and courage.

The girls came together with other Year 11 students from the Mitchell Electorate and shared thoughts and ideas on how to be great, inspirational leaders in their schools. They also had the opportunity to experience the wise knowledge of exceptional leaders and speakers, as they shared their personal stories and secrets about what it is to be a great leader each and every day.
