Tangara Old Girl (Class of 2009) and Debating Coach, Abigail McCarthy, recently competed at the Australasian Debating Championships in Malaysia.
Abigail’s team had the highest aggregate points out of all the teams competing and broke 3rd, making it to the octofinals. Abigail was tied as the 8th Best Speaker in the Australasian region. There were over 123 teams competing and 369 individual debaters from countries such as New Zealand, Singapore, The Philippines, New Zealand and China.
Abigail says, “I was ecstatic to do so well and can definitely trace it straight back to the training I received at Tangara through the debating program from Year 6 onwards.” Another Tangara debating coach, Rebecca Barrett, was on Abigail’s team and also a top ten speaker.
Abigail is studying an Arts degree in Government and International Relations (with Honours), and would like to work in Policy.
